Meet the Crew: Abbey

Abbey is our newest intern, and we’re thrilled to have her join our team! She’s currently studying environmental science at the University of Mary Washington. Make sure to catch her on an adventure this summer- she’s learning how to climb and loves hiking. We bet by the end of the summer, she may even catch a few fish!

What do you go by?

• Most people call me Abbey but I really have no preference between Abbey and Abigayle 

How old are you?

• I’m 19

Where did you attend college or school?

• I am going into my junior year at the University of Mary Washington studying environmental science.

Where did you grow up?

• I grew up in the city of Richmond 

Favorite outdoor activity?

• I love taking pictures outdoors when going on walking trails/ hikes with friends

What's your guilty pleasure?

• I love watching bad reality TV shows.

What is your favorite type of BB trip?

• I enjoy hiking trips and climbing. While I don’t know how to climb, I love seeing how excited people are as they learn to!

Favorite band?

• More of an artist then a band but Barns Courtney 

Favorite food?

• Spanakopita or a good homemade pasta salad

How did you get involved with BB?

• My mom had volunteered with BB through her work and had suggested to me that it would be something I was interested in because I do a lot of outdoor community service projects at school. 

Why does BB's mission resonate with you?

• I think it’s important to give everyone the chance to try something new. When I was younger I had a lot of self doubt when it came to trying new things if given the opportunity. I think it’s critical that people with disabilities get a chance to experience activities outdoors because they are often overlooked and don’t get to enjoy the same experiences that other people may because of it. 

Fun fact about yourself?

• I love card games and board games.
